About Ganeshpuri

A Sacred Village of Spiritual Significance

Nestled just 80 km north of Mumbai, Ganeshpuri is a tranquil village known for its spiritual retreats, healing hot springs, and timeless energy. It rose to prominence as the home of Bhagwan Nityanand, a deeply revered Indian mystic who lived here from 1936 until his Mahasamadhi in 1961. Even today, pilgrims travel from across the world to Ganeshpuri Temple and Nityanand Ashram, especially during auspicious days like Guru Purnima, to seek spiritual blessings and immerse themselves in the village’s divine atmosphere.

The Life and Legacy of Bhagwan Nityanand

Bhagwan Nityanand was a silent mystic, often teaching without words. In the 1920s, early followers in Mangalore would sit in silence, receiving his quiet yet powerful energy. His rare spoken insights were recorded by a disciple, Tulsiamma, and published in Kannada as the Chidaksha Geeta. He was known for his intense yet compassionate presence, often delivering shaktipat, a spiritual awakening, through mere glance or gesture. His teachings and energy remain central to the spiritual life of Ganeshpuri.

Gurudev Siddha Peth

In 1936, Bhagawan Nityananda settled in Ganeshpuri, where his spiritual presence transformed the village into a sacred destination. Before his Mahasamadhi in 1961, he asked Swami Muktananda to establish an ashram nearby on land he gifted. Muktananda later founded what became Gurudev Siddha Peeth—now a vibrant center for Siddha Yoga, attracting seekers from around the world. The area is also home to shrines, sacred springs, and peaceful retreats for spiritual practice.
